Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/entrepreneurship?
I started my food journey when I was 9 years old. Growing up in Mombasa-Kenya exposed me to Swahili food which is what I grew up on. As I grew up, my food repertoire grew but one thing was prevalent, my love for Swahili food stayed. I decided to leave my corporate job in my early twenties and started a catering company that focused on corporate catering. That led to me writing my first book 'Swahili food made easy' which has since sold out.
Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.
Swahili food has Indian, Arab, Portuguese and even German influence. My goal in life is to put Swahili food on the map.
Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?
Creating awareness and learning all the ropes like filming and photography.
Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?
I remember starting out and nothing was moving and I felt really discouraged. I felt like nothing I was doing helped change things and so I took a little break, learned to improve my craft and went back out there stronger and more confident than ever.
Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?
My experiment period started as a child and so it was a long journey.
Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?
I would like to add more products to the line. We currently only have the eBook available.
Q7. How would you advise/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?
Follow your passion and keep it to yourself. Take as much time as you need to structure it all seamlessly. Look at businesses that are similar to yours and study how they run things and how they create awareness then tailor that to suit you.
